So you are ready to book a family trip. Now you are scouring the 'net for cheap vacations and hotel and flight travel deals. Maybe you've left this for the last minute. Not to worry, you can still find some great prices.

Of course planning ahead has many advantages and you can sometimes get a super deal that way, you can also find things at the last minute too. Often you can take advantage of price wars and get the very best deals.

Of course most people know to check the Internet at all of the many travel sites in order to see what type of packages they may offer.

One thing that a lot of people don't think to do, however, is to check the travel section of your local newspaper. Check this section for lots of deals on airfare, travel packages, and just good travel deals in general. Properly used (by checking daily), this can really be a goldmine of information.

Another thing you can do is call travel vendors directly. This can help you find cheap vacations and often many great hotel and flight prices.

Even in this day and time of doing everything online, I would also recommend checking with a travel agency in a "brick and mortar" office, meaning a physical building and not one on the Internet. Travel agents can access a database of hotels which may net you a great deal on a hotel package.

If you happen to be traveling to Las Vegas you are in luck, as this destination is usually loaded with all-inclusive travel packages. Ask your travel agent about them or check at the online agencies. Deals abound!

People may disagree, but I find train travel to be very pleasant as long as you are not going to be traveling too terribly long. It's a great way to see America and the countryside and for a relatively short distance you can often arrive just as fast as flying when you take into consideration all the time spent with layovers and waiting for luggage, boarding, etc.
